24 hour sail
21 May 2017 | Horseshoe bay Magnetic island Queensland Australia
Wall to wall sunshine
Upped anchor at 06.35 on 20th May and then dropped it again at 08.40 on 21st May. Sailed north up the lovely rugged coastline seeing a few birds but nothing else on the wildlife front. We had two other sailing ⛵️ boats pass us, that took most of the day, we managed to pass a couple of very large coal merchants waiting to be loaded at the mile long jetty. We decided to sail on through the night and through the next day, my watch was 18.00 to 20.00 then 00.00 to 04.00. The midnight watch gave me time to Skype home for a few minutes but the internet was poor so had to abandon the video. I put some Bette Midler tunes on and started to re-read my Wilbur Smith books. The Southern sky is so full of stars I didn't know where to look first, when the moon came up at 03.00, it was a tiny crescent and blood red in colour. This got me through the night without feeling sleepy at all. I got Ian up out of bed and after our handover I crashed for a couple of hours, when I awoke it was about 23C and broad daylight. We are now anchored in horseshoe bay off Magnetic island there are 14 other boats of one kind or another also. Some of the other Boaties have come over and said hello on funny little pedalows with small sails rigged.
