Smells or what
25 August 2017 | Nadi market, Fiji
I got up this morning and had another lovely shower and breakfast, then it was a short walk down to the bus stop. The first 2 buses pulled up and seemed to expect me to walk across 5 feet of 2 inch deep mud to get on the bus, but when I pointed this out they just drove on, the 3rd bus did stop and let me on. It cost me 40cents (about 10 pence) to go over 30 minutes into Nadi town, now there are markets and then there is Nadi market, I reckon that there were over 800 stalls selling almost the same things. The first 100+ stalls were only selling Cava root, which you grind down and either smoke it or drink it, it is some sort of mild narcotic, but apparently it is perfectly legal, you are even allowed to drive after taking it (the mind boggles in more ways than one) then there was well over 500 fruit and veg stalls both on stands and spread out on the ground. Now if the sight was fantastic then the smells were something else out of this world, there were herbs and spices and many different curry smells coming from everywhere with an absolute riot on the smell and taste buds. I also had my first mango here it was slightly hard because they reckon that they are not in season for another 2 weeks and another large bunch of beautiful sweet bananas my favourite, for about 50 pence. Once through this lot then it’s onto the handmade souvenirs and other goods. I wondered around the town looking into all the shops but it was just too much for 1 day so I may be going back soon. The gold and silver was everywhere and seemed rather cheap but looked expensive. When I got back to the hotel I went out to the pool side for about 3 hours just to top up on my tan, but the down side is I have been eaten alive by the mosquitoes. Dinner tonight was great, now I’m ready for bed. Good night to my reader.
