Wine all around but no drinking for me
26 September 2017 | Waiheke island
Yesterday was not a nice day with heavy rain and hailstorms popping up all the time. So this morning the sun was shining and I could see wall to wall blue skies. So I got up nice and early and went out, after about 90 minutes I got on the ferry ⛴ to Waiheke island. The crew on the ferry convinced me to buy an all day, jump on jump off bus ticket to get around. Then on the way to the bus stop I saw a little shed with bikes 🚴 for hire, so I handed over $35 NZD and pedalled off on a nice Trek hard tail, I think that the main attraction on the island is wine because there are at least 20 vineyards spread around ( as most of you will know I only use wine 🍷 to put on my chips) almost everyone was carrying boxes 📦 of the stuff and it looked very fancy and expensive. The coastline is quite rugged with some nice beaches dotted around, as usual there are lots and lots of hills, I had to climb a rather large one in order to visit a little place called Blackpool. Again my very good navigational skills came in to their own because I managed to get lost on an island, well not lost but way off where I wanted to be, one bit of my ride was along a road called beach view road, it was about 7km long and I literally saw the beach for less than 100 metres, so disappointing 😕by the time I had got back to the bike shed I had covered about 44km and climbed over 850m, my legs were in bits again, but a most enjoyable day
