Big waves and whales

Through the night and during my watch we had 3 to 4 metre waves rolling in from behind, made worse by a wind of 28 knots gusting to 35, making the boat ⛡️pitch and roll around all over the place, the cockpit was swamped by some of the bigger waves coming in over the rather low transom, it was also [...]

Happy birthday Charlotte

06 January 2018
I need to sing a song to my lovely niece 🎡🎷🎸🎻 Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Charlotte, happy birthday to you 🎹πŸ₯πŸŽ·πŸŽ΅. 18 today.
Only 500 miles away from Barbados so about 5 days sailing ⛡️ to go then we will be back on dry land. But back to today and tonight's celebrations, we will be allowed to have a beer so I will be having mine at midnight πŸ•› UK time. Happy 😊 New Year to you all. The youngsters aboard decided it would be a good thing to dance πŸ’ƒ up on the coach roof, which worried 😧 me just in case a rogue wave 🌊 hit us and knocked them overboard, so I stood guard ready to act, gladly I was not needed.

I got up to a very dull day for the first one of the new year. My coffee was extremely good, Marion made us some chocolate 🍫 brownies which were scrumptious I could have eaten more if I had been allowed. What would make today really good would be to see some dolphins 🐬 or more whales πŸ‹ ........ Alas no wildlife today.

We are less than πŸ’― miles away from Barbados now so only a day to go, but the crew is starting to get fractured, the skipper πŸ‘©β€βœˆοΈ is getting more and more intolerable and won't leave the other crew alone for some reason, he had a go at me a few days ago and I bit back so he seems to be leaving me alone. This morning we (David) caught our biggest dorado yet, it was over 1 metre long and weighed in at 10kg. I cooked part of it for lunch along with some mashed pumpkin πŸŽƒ and potatoes πŸ₯” it was rather nice if I say so myself. This afternoon almost disaster struck when the forestay (cable holding the mast in place) came apart with an almighty bang, shearing the coupling off at the bottom, after around 2 hours we managed to effect a temporary repair using shackles and ropes with the winch to pull it back into place, because of this we are now motoring without any sails into Barbados. Just as the sun β˜€οΈ was setting we had a very brief visit by a pod of about 7 dolphins 🐬 but much too quick for any pictures, it has made my day.
