These are the voyages of the Sailing Yacht Pegasus . . .
going where few men and FEWER women have ever gone before
Basse Terre, Guadeloupe
05/22/2009

We headed south very early Friday morning to get down to Basse Terre, Guadeloupe's capital and second largest city. We intended to clear customs, get into the marina there, and maybe rent a car and do some island touring for a couple days. We ended up having to anchor outside what was left of the marina, where we found a backhoe working on the jetty and a very small channel leading inside. James took the dinghy in to check it out and clear customs. When he returned, he said they could get us in there, but some of the docks were falling apart, the place was filthy, and it would not be a nice place to stay. It didn't take long to decide to move on to the largest city and commercial shipping area in the middle of the southern coast, at the center of the "butterfly."

Thursday we moved to Deshaies (Day-hay) near the northwest end of Guadeloupe. That was the last place we knew our friends on L'Aventura to be.
