Beer blog

29 June 2013
A bunch have folks have asked to hear about some of the local beers we've been samplinging, here are some notes of the Gaspé beers:

Pit Caribou (Anse à Beaufils)
This little micro is almost at the end of the world... It's in the tiny port of Anse à Beaufils, which is the closest Harbour to Percé. Tried a bunch of their product, the best of which was
Bon Aventure -Rousse, the Quebcois are really into reds, this one has a lot of depth and a nice touch of bitter. I had this on draft and in the bottle, so far the best of the trip. Also had La Blonde de L'Anse -Golden Ale, this one was really light and easy, best really cold.
Heather also had their Witbier which she really liked.

Naufrager (Shipwreck) is a micro from Carleton on the Gaspé side of Baie de Chaleurs. I had several of their beers but two stand out
Raccoon Imperial Black Stout is really thick and smokey and fairly sweet, named for an old steam yacht pressed into service with the RCN and lost with all hands in the Battle of the St.Lawrence.
St. Barnabé Stout I really liked. It was much like an Irish stout, creamy and dark, very tastey, slightly bitter.

Les Brasseurs RJ is a micro from Montreal. All of their beers have a similar hop which I think had a licorice flavor. I didn't really take to it. The two I liked the most were Cheval Blanc, a white beer, and Cap Espoir, an ale.
