After almost a month living on land in the boat yard, we are back on water. Not without incident. In the slip, just after the travelift had lowered us into the water, a motorboat hit our windvane while unloading passengers. Fortunately, there appears to be no damage. Then as were backing out of the slip, the water in the exhaust disappeared. A gear behind the water pump was found to be the problem. Once in the water, we inflated our dinghy and were putting on the chaps (dinghy canvas cover) when a screw pulled out of the transom - rotten wood - today we see how bad it is. Still it is good to be back on water with a bit more breeze and no boat yard dust.

Petite Ourse is moored off the Carenage boatyard as we prepare engines, machinery, sails, and interior for a long stay on the hard, starting tomorrow. We still have a week before leaving to arrange for a dehumidifier, sail repairs, canvas repair, hot water tank repair, outboard motor overhaul and much more. This will be our last post to the blog until we return to the boat next year. Happy Holidays to everyone.

We are anchored on west side of Topua Island in the Bora Bora lagoon. The water is turquoise close to us and almost light green nearer the reef. This afternoon we swam with dozens of rays on the reef.

We are in Bora Bora to see the conclusion of the Hawaiki Nui Canoe Race, the major sporting event of the year equivalent to the Tour de France or Superbowl. It was overcast and raining off and on when we got here so we hope to see the turquoise lagoon in better light tomorrow.

Petite Ourse is nestled in Baie Tapuamu currently with Italian and British boats. Our cockpit looks out towards Bora Bora about 20 miles away. The village in the Baie is very quiet except last midnight when all of the village dogs sang to the full moon. Everything is peaceful this night so far.

We moved this morning 5 miles to Haurepiti Bay where we anchored in 60 feet near the head of the fiord-like inlet. Just before noon, the sun became obscured and rain poured down for hours with bursts of thunder and lightning. However, tomorrow the sun is supposed to return.
