Time to Move On
09 April 2017 | Cape Town, South Africa
The days grow shorter and colder as autumn increases its hold on Cape Town. We have been waiting for a weather window to at least the midpoint between here and St. Helena. After getting around South Africa with winds less than 30 knots we hope not to break the streak. It took much patience to wait for the weather but favourable winds of sufficient duration did finally happen. Not to say that the passages were pleasant as the Agulha Current gets uncomfortable even with left over southwesterly swell as we found out leaving Richards Bay.
The people of Cape Town are most welcoming and the city has some of the best marine trades in all the countries we have visited. Services are not dear, with the South African Rand at fairly low values compared with our Canadian dollar.
Our first stop is St Helena about 1700 nautical miles from here and then to French Guiana and finally Tobago/Trinidad. We leave Cape Town on April 10th.
