Weather Waiting
05 June 2015 | Island Head, Queensland
Richard
Short hop today from the beach of Pearl Bay to Island Head, about ten miles from anchorage to anchorage. There was a strong wind warning out and we did encounter a brief spell of 20 to 25 knot winds. Island Head is like an estuary fed by a creek. Both anchorages are in a military exercise area but thankfully none are scheduled for the next while. We smell smoke outside possibly a forest fire to our thinking since there is no military exercises at the moment. We will probably remain a day or two for the winds to diminish and head for the Percy Islands. Still unusually cool here as south wind is pumping up Tasman Sea temperatures into central Queensland. After getting used to internet along the coast, there are no connections here. There are about 4 sailboats and 4 powerboats anchored at Island Head waiting for the weather to improve. There are supposed to be oysters here so if the wind is not too bad tomorrow we may do some searching around at low tide.
