Watson Bay
07 August 2015 | Lizard Island, Queensland
We have a windy but secure anchorage in Watson Bay, Lizard Island. The island is a national park except for a small part used by an upscale resort and a Research Station for the study of coral reefs. The resort is operating but with much reconstruction due to a cyclone this year and the year before causing much damage. We have slow, intermittent internet. Almost every evening, the boaters head to the beach for sundowners. The sun sets over the sea here so occasionally you get a green flash.
We walked across the island to the Blue Lagoon yesterday and today to the Research Station. There are a large variety of birds and we encountered a couple of monitor lizards after which the island is named.
The photograph, taken from the so-called Chinamans Ridge, shows our dinghy on the beach of Watson Bay.
