The notorious Cape Malea
17 September 2012 | bottom of the Peloponese
Sailed in company with Sheherazade (JP, Sylvianne and Enzo) down towards the second most southern point of Mainland Europe. In 25 knots of breeze and a lumpy sea we foolishly thought it would calm down on the other side of the cape. JP clocked 50 knots of wind across his deck. But the sea was flat so gave us a nice speedy sail to the turquoise and sand dune bay of Sarakiniko on the island of Elafonisos. Then on to the small and high sided anchorage at Port Kayio. From there around cape Tainaron (great name, ancient entrance to the underworld through caves here) to pretty Limeni (expensive fish restaurant) and Koroni on the other side of the Messiniakos Gulf. Sad Aurevoir to Sheherazade. But then a happily met Ruth & Richard on Irresistible from Sard who had detoured to Kalamata to see us which was lovely. Weather starting to be turn now... having to have some hatches closed at night... quite enjoying it.
