Heading to Harbor Island from Damariscove Island

21 July 2012 | Harbor Island
Roan Morwood-Portoles
It was a lot easier getting out of the narrow cove then I thought it would be. First we had to get the stern anchor out, we accomplished this by taking the dinghy out along to the line and slowly pulling the anchor in.
Next we had to get the bow anchor up. I should probably Explain why we had 2 anchors

It means that we don’t spin around when the wind changes, that means in this case that we wont get bashed against the rocks.
It also provides space for other boats to come in and anchor
If other boats come to anchor since we are so wide being a catamaran they also have to put down a stern anchor so they don’t spin into us

Anyways we got the anchors up and off we were on our way. We left at 12:20 and arrived at 4:00 so it took us about 3 hours and 40 minutes. As we approached Harbor Island I was astonished at the amount of lobster pot buoys. All of them had been placed about 25 feet from each other or closer and there were hundreds of them! We had already been warned of the crazy amount of lobster pots in Muscongus Bay but I was still astounded. We anchored in about 20 feet of water near to Hall Island across from Harbor Island. The cove was deceptively calm and sheltered. With white water frothing at the edge of the islands, This spot looked great for fishing.
