Getting ready to leave DC

20 October 2012 | Washington DC
Marta Portoles
We had planned to leave on Saturday but .... It was a bit too hectic. Mark still needed to get into the water to check the strange vibration in the starboard propeller. Friday night we discovered that the secondary filter on the dinghy outboard was leaking - the holder piece was broken, do not not know why or how - and needed to be replaced. We wanted to do one more washing load, have one more hot shower (three hot showers this week! we are spoiled rotten :-) and we also wanted a quiet day. So, we stayed Saturday. Mark did not find anything wrong with the starboard propeller but greased both propellers.

Mark and Roan went to West Marine in Alexandria to pick up the replacement part for the dinghy filter, while Alec and I walked up to Paul’s, a "boulangerie" at the edge of the Mall with the best baguettes, croissants and French bread sandwiches outside Paris.

Tomorrow we will start a quick trip down the Potomac. The plan is to sail, if possible, motor, if necessary, 60 miles to Colonial Beach tomorrow. Then Monday we are thinking on doing another 60 miles to Tangier Island.
