Camp Por Dos: Weeks 2, 3 and 4
25 July 2014 | Cavtat, Croatia

I am happy to report that Camp Por Dos was a complete success. Granted the kids have known each other almost since birth, and they are all pretty well behaved but still, … four of them in close quarters for 4 weeks!
They had a great time together playing their own made up games on and off the water, such as, trying to stand on one of the paddle-boards all together - I believe they managed it just a couple of times for few seconds before they all ended up in the water rolling with laughter. For them, it did not matter if we were in Croatia or in Timbuktu, they just wanted to be together playing.
We were lucky enough with the weather, light winds and smooth waters so we did many spinnaker runs sailing from bay to bay and island to island. With so many islands and bays to choose from, we moved about every other day just sailing for a two or three hours in the morning while the four kids did some school work. By the afternoon we were anchored and ready for swimming, kayaking or, Will’s favorite, being towed by the dinghy while standing or kneeling in the paddle-board.
On July 22, Effie and Eric caught up with us in Kolocep at the end of their Croatian vacation. Kolocep is an island 5 miles north from Dubrovnik and 30-min ferry ride. From Kolocep, we all took the ferry to visit Dubrovnik and walk the famous walls of the old city. Although it looked like people still live in the old city, most of the place has been taking over by tourist businesses: souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, travel agencies and accommodation. We had dinner in a beautiful setting overlooking the water and the city walls, before taking the ferry back to Kolocep.
From Kolocep, we sailed south to Cavtat a small town nestled between two anchoring bays and about 10 min from Dubrovnik airport. Eric and Effie were taking Andrew and Will back to Boston on Friday, July 25. This was the end of Camp Por Dos, but not the end of our summer visitors, and their adventures on Por Dos.
