Ground Tackle

29 July 2008 | Deltaville, Virginia
John
After dragging again we decided to question the cruisers in the anchorage about their ground tackle. Seems everyone has dragged no matter what type of anchor is used or how much chain is attached.

The mud in the Bay and rivers seems to be poor holding no matter what the cruising guides say.

We ordered a new Balmar 100A alternator from West Marine today & it should be in Thursday. Hope to get underway Friday when our friend David's crew arrives from Atlanta for the weekend.

We have scheduled a haul out here for the 15th of August to repaint, inspect the underwater equipment and for a couple week trip to our homes in Atlanta.

The Deltaville Marina on Jackson Creek is a cool place to hang out, with bicycles to use and a car available for grocery trips. Boats that are anchored can use all the facilities for $35 a person a week, which is a great deal.

There are more ABYC certified technicians working at the marine facilities than anywhere else we have ever been. David is going to have his inverter checked tomorrow as it has not worked in over a month.

Thunderstorms rolled through this afternoon again, but we hung out in a screened porch for boaters. There are tables, chairs and a grill anyone can use. This is a wonderful place & the people are great.
