Missing yacht TAFADZWA
18 March 2010 | New Zealand
The search for a yacht, missing off the North Island east coast, has been called off until new information is received.
South African Paul van Rensburg is the only person aboard the Tafadzwa. The yacht has been missing after leaving Tauranga on Friday bound for Gisborne.
The Rescue Coordination Centre says in the last three days an Airforce Orion and two other search planes have covered 96,000 square miles of ocean.
Mission coordinator Dave Wilson says the weather has been excellent for searching and they are confident that if the yacht was in the search area they would have found it. He says searchers are disappointed not to have found Mr van Rensburg or the yacht, but there is nothing more they can do at this stage.
The EPIRB has not gone off and no wreckage has been found, so the hope is that he might be drifting ...Please keep a look out for Paul
