Aloha All,

Sorry. No blog yesterday. Heavy Wx issues. Frontal passage is all pau. We are back underway, under sail. Seas are a bit lumpy after yesterday's winds but settling down little by little.

It doesn't seem fair! As soon as the winds pick up the seas build rapidly. When the winds abate, the seas take their time settling down to the new wind direction and speed. Kind of like the relationship between the market price of a barrel of oil and gasoline pump prices in the State of Hawaii. Don't you think?

We basically pulled off the road and parked the boat last night. Initially we tried "heaving to" by backing the jib and leaving the wheel hard over. "Making a living the old hard way." Didn't work! We just turned and settled with a stern quarter to the seas and wind. While a comfortable and quieter point of sail we were making 2-3 knots in the wrong direction. Hence, we deployed our new "Jordan Series Drogue" for the first time. It worked! presented our stern to the wind and seas and slowed the boat to 1.5 to 2 knots. That we could live with. There was a bit of side to side roll though. We only drifted down wind 24.9 NM in a 24 hour period.

No recovering that thing took a lot of effort and about an hour and a half. That was a beast of a different color. I would say it was worth it as we accomplished our objectives: Stop the boat; not lose too much of our hard gained miles; get some crew rest.

Everyone take card and stay well. All our love.
