Delayed Departure
31 July 2016 | Oporto
Hans / Ulric
Hans: The next morning I picked up the keys and started with preparations such as counting food and make a shopping list. From the grib files it became clear that cruising the Galician coast was not a good idea: heavy winds against us Sunday and Monday and almost no wind on the Spanish North coast. A better plan to bring us to Brest would be sailing out westward for a day, then tacking towards Brest and pick up a bit better winds. This meant for the shopping list that we had to buy food for at least five days.
Unfortunately, we had to let go our first planned departure time: there was still some smell in the gas locker and the technician was called to try to find the gas leak. But he could come only on Monday morning. This gave us the opportunity to mount the new genoa, that had made a journey from London to Lisbon to Porto Santo and back to London and now arrived at Oporto.
Ulric: I arrived in Oporto midday Sunday. The airport is conveniently close by. The fog was reigning pretty mighty over the river Duoro. Hans was onboard since last night. He had slept in the cockpit because the marina office was already closed when he arrived.
