The second sail of 2015! Brendan and I set out from Gillingham at noon today. It was blowing quite a lot so we asked the kind lock keeper to join us from our berth to the lock and help us with the ropes. It was later going to gust more than 30 knots. We managed to get on our way without any incidences.
The day had started with a quiet Spring rain in London this morning, but when we got on our way, the weather turned out way better than forecast. sunshine! After leaving the Medway and heading East on along the North shore of Isle of Sheppey, we hit more than 10 knots speed over ground sailing under just genoa.
We turned in to the East Swale and had the tide and wind against us for the last few miles, Some twenty seals were basking in the sun on the bank. We anchored off Harty Ferry. Going ashore was pretty tricky and muddy with huge tidal differences. Brendan had no boots with him so I had to carry him on the mud flats to Princess Ransom.
We visited the Ferry Inn which is the famous pub at Harty Ferry. Back onboard, we had to deal with all the mud and make dinner. We ate one kilo of lasagna together . hope we don't get ill! The full moon is very beautiful and casting its light on the Swale this evening. I have been awake since four this morning, so battling to stay awake. Brendan has cuddled up with me in the bunk.
