We're finally back aboard Quilcene after a winter, spring and summer spent mostly in England! We did manage to get back to her in February to sail overnight from Lanzarote, where we'd left Quilcene in a very expensive marina, to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria; much more affordable! Through the summer we flew back twice to Las Palmas and managed to do a bit of sightseeing and complete some long needed maintenance; new sails, all new standing rigging (stainless steel wires that hold up the mast), some new running rigging (ropes - halyards and sheets), refurbished decks (oh joy!!) and a nice clean bottom! Oh yes, and a new chart plotter to keep us on track!
....and we tested all this new gear yesterday with a passage of around 55 miles, sailing from Gran Canaria to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It was a bit 'lumpy' in the Atlantic swell between the islands but Quilcene performed brilliantly, giving us sailing speeds of up to 9 knots! Her crew performed slightly less well - needing to get their sea legs back!! However we arrived safely and are now tucked up in the marina for a couple of weeks whilst we explore Tenerife. More soon.......
