Day 3
23 January 2014 | 434 miles southwest of the Cabo Verdes
Belinda and Kit
144 miles run in the last 24 hours. The sea state is calming a little as we move further south, thank goodness, so we're feeling more rested today. Henry (wind steering) is steering once again; we had to use the power-hungry autopilot whilst the big waves and swell were twisting and turning the boat, and that meant having to run the engine for an hour or two a day to keep the batteries charged. In fact the sky is clearer now, if it lasts the solar panels should provide more power. We've extended our usual 4-hour watches to five during the night as it gives us more time to get a good sleep.
No other vessels seen, still finding lots of suicidal flying fish on the deck.
