Snails pace
01 February 2014 | 349 nautical miles to Suriname River approach

Just 102 nautical miles run in 24 hours. We hit a counter current last night and instead of the 5-7 knots we've been doing we are reduced to 3-4. For the first time since leaving Mindelo we ran the engine for a few hours for propulsion rather than just to top up the batteries. It didn't help much and we still have 1.5 knots against us, plus confused seas, so hope we're through it soon! It's frustrating to be so slow so close and watch our ETA stretching by days!
Can't wait to arrive and stop moving - and see something other than the sea!
Almost saw a ship in the night; I spotted the glow of its lights and watched as it moved along the horizon. It didn't show up on the AIS - strange as it must've been big to emit such a lot of light.
