Slow and hot!
02 February 2014 | 254 nautical miles to Suriname River approach
Belinda and Kit
Only 94 nautical miles run in 24 hours, the slowest yet. We take midday until midday for these daily runs; Kit has the daily 'miles to run' written down and stuck on the companionway - it's supposed to cheer us up! We spent a horrible night lumping about in the counter current and managed to sail slowly through the steep, confused seas it raised but it was no fun! We motored a bit more this morning and this afternoon the seas finally calmed so we think we're through it. Unfortunately the wind dropped with the sea so we're motoring once more as we approach the evening. It seems such a shame after sailing so far!
KIt saw a ship close up on his watch last night, it overtook us then crossed our stern - no AIS. We are increasingly vigilant as we close the land.
We trailed Squid mark II behind today but no luck so no fish dinner again! It's hot as 'the hobbs of hell' down in the cabin, 31C even with the hatches open. Quite a trial cooking but we are still eating well. We even have cabbage on the menu tonight, it kept remarkably well in the bottom of the fridge, but apart from onions and 2 carrots all the fresh food is used up - oh! and we have 1 apple, 2 pears and one orange left.
