Sailing in blue waters!

We left Domburg moorings on Sunday 9th March to motor 20 miles down river to the anchorage at the mouth. Bobbing about there we saw a beautiful sunset, and were fortunate to see some of the more rare wildlife of Suriname; In the morning pink river dolphins played around our boat for about an hour! We also saw a flock of Red Ibis flying over to their feeding grounds on the NW coast, so left Suriname on a good note!
Setting off on high water slack around 1300 on Monday we expected a calm exit through the buoyed channel but no such luck! It was windy and choppy for 16 miles, right out to the final buoy.
However it's great to have left the muddy river behind and be sailing again in blue water. Our speed has dropped from 7 knots last night to around 4/5 but we're still sailing with the wind on the beam. It's a different motion than with a following wind as it was for the Atlantic crossing; making this half of the crew feeling decidedly queasy! Hopefully I'll get my sea-legs back soon!
