Just a quick one this time: We’ve been on Culebra, Puerto Rico for just over a week. It’s a great little island, seems to be the place for aging hippies, dropouts and the end of the line for several yachties who sail in here and stay. The anchorage is well protected – we had to negotiate a long passage in through the reef, well buoyed happily! We’ve been enjoying it here and socialising quite a bit.
We took a ferry over to Puerto Rico main island ($1 each way for oldies!) with Roy and Madeline and walked our socks off sightseeing in San Juan one day. It's great - just like a European City with ancient forts, museums and art galleries - unfortunately some were closed as it was a holiday and also Monday! Still we did see lots and tried the tasty local delicacies!
On arrival at Fajardo ferry port PR there were loads of very macho looking soldiers/police/border patrol with guns, nasty looking dogs and mean faces! Not sure if that’s normal but thank goodness we live in the UK!
Will try to post some pics on Picasa before we leave, which just happens to be tomorrow! It should be nice to be on the move again as there's been little wind here and it's hot as hell!
We plan to head up through the Bahamas to Florida but not exactly sure of the route yet. Most of the islands sound wonderful but have scarily shallow depths so still looking for the best places to stop.
If you look at the Bahamas on Google Earth you can see the pretty blue colour the shallows make!
Wish us luck!
