We finally had to leave the Aves and continue west. Next stop is Bonaire. Bonaire is known for one thing only and that is the scuba diving in water with visibilities of 100 ft or more. Anchoring around Bonaire is totally forbidden to protect the reefs that their tourism depends on. They have 2 marinas and 40 moorings along the town front to accomodate visiting boats. If all are full you are just SOL! Normally there will be several moorings available at any given time. When we arrived with Dragonfly there were several near the north end away from the noisy bars and restuarants of town. We took 2 as far noth as possible and settled in to do some diving. If you have a divers cert card you can get all the air fills you could want. We signed up for 30 fills at a dive shop where we could come and go in the dinghys and they provided fresh water wash downs for the gear and a free shower for the divers. Can't beat it!
We hadn't dived in a while so our friend Jeff on Dragonfly gave us a refresher and took us out for a couple of shallow dives to get back in in the swing. It didn't take long to get it together and from then on it was one or two dives a day for the rest of our stay. The first order of busines however, was to find a really good cheeseburger in paradise. This was accomplished at the Buenos Aires Cafe on the waterfront. It had been a while and it's hard to beat a cheeseburger and fries for lunch washed down with a very cold beer. That taken care of we were ready for shopping and diving.
