hangin' in the Aves
08 September 2008 | Las Aves de Barlavento
pilott / clear and breezy
Still hangin' out in the Aves. I could do this for a long time. The water is clear and clean, the reefs are teeming with fish, the wind is steady and moderate from the east. My wind generator is powering the entire boat day after day. Let's see, that means I haven't had to burn a gallon of diesel for a week now to keep the batteries full. Break my heart. It doesn't get much better than this. We hopped into the dinghy toda and took a trip into the mangrove lagoon here to see the birds and do a little fishing. If I could just keep the damn barracuda off the lure I might be able to catch something worth while. Oh well, it's a great place and the birds are fun and interesting. They have never been hunted or bothered here so they have no fear of man. You can drift right up to them and reach out and touch one. They just look at you and cock their heads as if to say, What't that about? This is such a cool place, we'll be back here on our way to the ABC's, of that I'm sure.
