Rocketing North
01 August 2012 | Fitzoy Island
Susie
We were expecting pleasant 15 knot winds so we planned to sail north and pick up an anchorage or a mooring at one of the islands enroute to Cairns. There are a number of ‘fair weather’ anchorages but as we passed the first couple the wind started to pick up and by the time we reached Fitzroy Island the wind was a gusty 25knots, we had two reefs in the main and were flying. The cushions on the stern seats were trying to fly as well. Fitzroy is not a good anchorage in these conditions, so we headed for Cairns.
