We spent 9 days in Mackay and managed to put it to good use playing bridge (successfully), fixing the hot water system (unsuccessfully) and reprovisioning, but at the first sign of lighter winds we headed out. It bucketed down the night before but stopped just as we threw off the mooring lines and amazingly stayed dry for the rest of the day. The sea was flatter and the winds lighter than expected so we decided to go all the way to the southern Whitsundays.

The following morning we woke up to blue skies and no wind. What a joy.
