Christmas Day Sailing with the Family

My parents and sister drove in to Jacksonville for Christmas so it would be fitting to take them out and show them what sailing is all about. Winds were perfect for my mom, who as you can see, thought she was going to go overboard the whole time. We sailed south from port for about 2 hours before the winds died. Overall a good day to be on the water.

The weather was nice and warm so I took the boat out a couple times this past weekend. Great winds for the most part...here are some pics!

Well, she is officially mine! I ended up getting the boat for much cheaper than I expected and she will provide me with lots of things to do over the next couple months (and maybe years). This past Saturday we took her for her first run under new ownership. The winds were light so we ended up motor sailing most of the trip across the St. Johns River. We traveled into Doctor's Lake and stop for brunch at Whitey's Fish Camp. What a beautiful day to be on the water.

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my sailing blog! Although I have been motor boating since a child (and I love to do it as an adult!...haha), I had never sailed until a month ago when I was invited to sail on the St. Johns River aboard a friend's Catalina 30. Now all I can think about is learning how to sail and owning a sailboat. What better way to document this new experience than to start a sailing blog.
Due to the recent economical downturn, there are some great, non-advertised, deals on sailboats out there if you look around. Recently, I found a C-25 in great shape in the very marina where I departed for my first sail. Eager to strike a deal with the owner, I went to speak with the marina. Much to my surprise, I discovered the boat is being repossessed due to non-payment of slip fees -- A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO GET INTO SAILING! The boat is a wheel steered 1981 C-25. The exterior and interior need a little elbow grease, but overall, everything is in good shape and the fire engine red hull is a real eye catcher. Currently, I am working out the purchasing and title details with the marina, but am looking forward to getting her and making her sail worthy in time for Florida-Georgia weekend here in Jacksonville!
