Wednesday, Dec 25th Christmas Day
Christmas Eve was another blustery day, but we occupied ourselves with a kayak trip around the bay and made a few calls to home. One Facetime call to our daughter and grandsons back home for present opening and catching the pre santa excitement of two little boys! They were everything you would expect from a 4+ and nearly 6 yr old… and while they were driving their mother crazy..we had a good laugh watching them and are still smiling thinking about it.
We made plans for some new friends from Crystal Lake to join us for happy hour at 5…however around 4 a crazy storm blew thru with winds gusting to 60? and somehow managed to flip their dingy upside down, dump everything out and foul the engine. They managed to replace the spark plug and get in running again in time to pop over. After a fun visit, they headed home…in the rain, which started just after five and continued thru most of the night.
As the winds blew they also shifted and we found ourselves stern to the shore behind us, about 15 feet away. You could see the bottom clearly, and the shelf as it rose up just feet off our stern. VERY glad for a 42 inch draft right now!
Christmas Day dawned clear and turned into a lovely day overall with light breeze and a bright clear sky. We enjoyed a terrific snorkel along the shelf right behind us and found a friendly barracuda, a few octopus lairs, with no one home, and a spotted eel trying to hide behind a sea anemone and a rock.
And finally, we enjoyed a night of star watching with clear bright skies and not so much wind…An especially Lovely Christmas Day.
