Dateline: 01/01/2016 - Pammy (my wife) has suggested that it might be sensible for me to start a blog, recording events leading up to the 14th June 2018, which, you may have gathered, will be the start of the Golden Globe Race (GGR), the start of which, I am,at present, a provisional entry. As I look out of the window of our apartment in St.Mawes over towards Pendennis Point and Black Rock, which I suspect will be the start line of the GGR, the wind is howling from the South at around 40 knots, the waves are barrelling into the Carrick Roads, and Black Rock itself is resembling a Plisson 'phare'.......
It is days like today that dreams become a reality, and you have to start thinking along the lines: Days like today could well be an regular occurrence in the Southern Ocean - I can deal with it behind triple-glazing, but the raw environment of a 36ft yacht? a very sobering thought.......
For me, the race will come about in two distinct phases, phase 1 being getting to the start line.. Even though it is only 1 nautical mile from where I am writing this blog, I have to confess that I am terrified, petrified, humbled and quite frankly, in awe of what I have to achieve in the next 896 days to make that nautical mile, and this is really what this blog is about - the physical, emotional, financial and mental roller-coaster ride I am embarking on......
Then there is the easy bit - the race itself......(I wish!)
