Louisiades

Well, we're back. Inspired, grateful, discombobulated. Three weeks in the Louisiades has been a real highlight of our time with Resolute, not to be forgotten. We sailed with long time sailing buddies, Mike and Prue, and in convoy with sister Georgina and partner Dave, on their Seawind 1160, 'Nimrod', [...]

Faarrrr North Queensland

Madam Cupcake took off her socks! Must be HOT, DAMM HOT, says I. We're in Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island (near Townsville, for those of you about to reach for the chart..).

Are we there yet?

We go north-er. Queenslanders become, impossibly, friendlier. Land of pristine beaches, stunning inlets, glorious sunsets, fierce tides and GLADSTONE. Gute Trauer! Endless lines of ships. Coal. LNG. Alumina. Did someone hit the hyperspace button??

The most glorious place on earth

We arrived. We met Queenslanders. They told jokes. To whit ... 'and said God: "That's Queensland, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful people, impressive towns; it is the home of the world's finest artists, musicians, writers, thinkers, explorers and politicians. The people from Queensland [...]

In search of sunshine

Don't you love a great quote? How's this: 'Bizarre travel plans are dancing lessons from God' ~Kurt Vonnegut. Way to go, Kurt! Just about sums up this latest trip....

Rocky start to Masterchef, Season 2.

It's the much anticipated Series 2 Masterchef South Pacific cookoff ... struggling to find form. Where's the spice? Its not looking promising. First up, Glenda, the crowd favourite, failed to show. AVHD, meanwhile, failed to cook. Just barked orders to the kitchen hands from the wheelhouse, for jonah's [...]

A big day on the good ship RESOLUTE II. First up, the final masterchef cook-off! Will Glenda's superb fruit platter match AVHD's gourmet fry up? Will they survive together sharing the galley? A tough one for the judges, who wimped out completely. Everyone's a winner on the good ship, you see.

And then, when least expected, Sydney Harbour appeared on the starboard bow. 'What's that? asked Glenda, with a squeal of delight. 'I'm always up for a new adventure!'. 'Will there be fish?' asked Andrew. 'Can we shake out the reef now?' pleaded Smithy....

We turned right. We found a mooring. We stopped. We got off. Jacqui miraculously arrived with a bottle of bubbly. We drank and rejoiced. Janice made us all coffee. We purred.

1,500 nautical miles since we left Vanuatu, in all sorts of conditions - its been quite the journey. The last 'blat', from Coffs Harbour to Sydney in 29 hours, will be hard to top. We were treated to a whale dance show, spectacular conditions, and some general craziness. Some of the more absurd statistics:

- fastest speed whilst Glenda is below, taking a shower: 21.4 knots
- fastest speed whilst reefing the mainsail: 19 knots
- fastest speed whilst decanting red wine into a crystal decanter: 15.4 knots

Resolute is now sitting serenely in Greenwich Bay, looking like she never slipped away for a winter adventure. But we know better. The trip log says just short of 5,000 nautical miles (over 9,000 kilometres!). To all those who joined the trip, here's to the memories! (The crew list, in order of appearance: Pornstar Bill, HarSol John, Animal Mike, Ibu Cupkake, Lizzy, Gail, Noni, Tracy, Ivan, Millie, Bridget, Hannah, Edward, Naomi, Jack, Trisha, Paul, Darragh, Ibu Prue, Andrew AVHD, Glenda and Smithy). Ressie loves ya all.

Standing by on Channel 16.
