Cortes Bay, SYC Outstation
We arrived at Blind Channel Resort after a long run down Johnstone Strait with calm waters. We did hit a patch of fog that lasted a couple of miles, but with radar on and a bow lookout we did fine. We tied up at the fuel dock at Blind Channel and moored for the night. The next morning we moved back about 50 ft to a slip. We decided to have dinner at the marina restaurant and as in the past the dinner was great. Eliot Richter (who lost his wife earlier this year) scheduled a baseball game for the kids, including his two young children, Jonah (6), and Charlotte (~3). Jim was catcher, I covered right field in a lawn chair! It was more batting practice for the children than a baseball game, but was fun.
We left around 8 am the next morning to get to the Dent and Yuculta rapids at slack water. We arrived a little early so we fished along the bank for about 45 min with no success. We then got in the queue and proceeded through the rapids.
We arrived in Cortes Bay yesterday afternoon and easy transit through Dent and Yaculta Rapids. We went over to the clam beds this morning and collected 45 oysters and 225 Manila clams! (that's the daily limit) Life is good.
We've decided to stay here another day before heading to Nanaimo. Expect two nights there before heading further south. Looks like arrival in Edmonds on the 7th of Aug or thereabouts.
Oh yeah, when I arrived at Cortes I got a message from Alice that our daughter, Jennifer, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Jaimie Day Crosson came in at 8lbs. 4oz., 21 inches. That's her in the picture. This is Jennifer second child. She and Chad also have a two year old son, Joseph. Alice has been in Chelmsford, MA, since the 11th of July. I will join her later in August after I return to Seattle.
