08 August 2014 | Elliott Bay Marina, Seattle
Ron/sunny and warm
We arrived in Edmonds Marina this past Tuesday afternoon after the transit from Friday Harbor via Swihomish Channel. Channel fever set in after our departure from Cotes Bay. We went directly to Nanaimo with very favorable weather and current. When we found out the port of Nanaimo was full went to Nanaimo Yacht Club and used our reciprocal privileges! Best place to stay in Nanaimo! I know it's a hike from town, but with difference in price, it's cheaper to stay at NYC and pay cab fares back and forth to town, and besides, it's a very nice walk along the waterfront.
After leaving Nanaimo, we transited Dodd Narrows on our way to Sidney, where we spent two nights. While in Sidney we saw WAVELET and Becky and Glenn Latimer. On Monday morning we crossed Boundary Pass and arrived at SYC outstation in Friday Harbor around noon. We were invited over to ALCHEMIST and had happy hour with Claus & Thrysa Jensen. What an enjoyable time. Thanks. Due to rough weather predicted for The strait of Juan de Fuca, we left FH at 0600 in company with ALCHEMIST to transit the Swihomish Channel in route to Oak Harbor where we intended to overnight. With extremely favorable currents we arrive in the vicinity of Oak Harbor before noon. With channel fever in full swing we opted to continue on to Edmonds. ALCHEMIST opted to proceed on to Oak Harbor for the evening.
We moored in Edmonds until this morning (Friday 8 August) when Jim and I took boat back to Elliott Bay Marina where we arrived around 10 am. Gary Boyer graciously offered us a ride back to the Edmonds marina to retrieve our vehicles. Thanks, Gary.
Trip complete! Thanks to all of you who followed us through our blog and our gps tracking system! What a trip! Thanks to Willie Idsinga, Mike Morgan, Jim Orvis and Arthur Rosebury for making this trip a lot of fun!
Until next time
Ron
