Wrangell to Ketchikan via Zimovia Cove and Meyers Chuck
We had an uneventful passage through Zimovia Strait to Zimovia Cove. We called about tickets for Anan Bay Bear Observatory but were informed all passes for the next several days had been issued. Don't try to go after a holiday weekend. Offices closed over 4th of July and closed on weekends, so you can't contact them for Monday or Tuesday passes! So we decided to spend night in Zimovia Cove then go to Meyers Chuck. Just after we anchored in Zimovia Cove a pod of Orcas passed by outside! We put our crab pot out and started fishing. Caught several Cabezon and one female crab and one small male crab. We didn't have Mikes luck with us. We left the next morning for Meyers Chuck and moored pier side in a squall. Weather settled down and we called and ordered the sticky buns from the post mistress. She delivered them this morning promptly at 7am.
We plan to leave around 10:00 to ride an ebb current to Ketchikan. Weather forecast a opening to cross Dixon Entrance on Friday. So we should get two nights in Ketchikan.
We arrived in Ketchikan around 2 pm, refueled, and moored at Bar Harbor Marina in north Ketchikan. We saw a couple of humpback whales in Clarence Strait at junction of Behm Canal. We walked to town, then took the city bus back to the marina. There is an advantage to being a Senior citizen! Bus was $0.50!
We'll spend tomorrow here and probably leave at first light on Friday morning and head to Prince Rupert.
