Merry Christmas From Issuma

Even though we're far out to sea, we've remembered the Christmas spirit on Issuma! I brought along some battery powered holiday lights and a small nativity (under the window) to make the cabin festive. Max presented us with hand crafted gifts from his unique collection of beachcoming treasures. And with the sunny, breezy weather cooperating, Richard made easy watches for all hands.
We had our special holiday meal under a beautiful sunset on Christmas eve. Max roasted rosemary potatoes to go wth the delicate smoked trout I had brought. With Richard's rustic, homemade bread, fine manchego cheese, and salty green olives, it was a feast for sailors! Richard had also baked a mince pie for dessert, which included an extra special ingredient. As the pie was cooling in the cockpit, Issuma took a hard roll, and a foot ended up in the pie! I must say we enjoyed the pie in spite of, or perhaps because of, this extra touch.
As we feasted, we told stories of our families' holiday traditions at home. Know that we love and miss you all. After a fine meal in great company, sailing into the night under a magnificent starry sky, one couldn't help but believe in the magic of Christmas wherever you may be.
