Williwaws are sudden, intense blasts of wind, that can come from surprising directions, as a result of wind blowing over mountains and falling down cliffs.

We had the anchor out and four lines securely tying Issuma to shore while we waited out a storm in Bahia Mallet. The gusts were fierce, and you can see the spray they have lifted from the water in the picture.
