Out to the Reef!
Skarlath
06/19/2009

A couple weeks ago I went out to the reef with some of Dad's friends from his old work, Nurc. They are scientists who study the reef. Lean, Thor, and Mark document parts of different reefs to determine what is flourishing and what is diminishing. We went out on the R/V Magic ll. They were down two weeks and I was able to go out three times. There where so many fish! I drew a couple of my favorites in my Nature Sketchbook. They said next time they were down I could go back out with them so I hope that is soon!

Green Hour
Skarlath
02/12/2009

We did the Green Hour again! It was a lot of fun. This time I drew a little Green Heron. I like how I showed the colors. I might darken some of the colors by painting them (Their water color pencils, really cool). And we had to do a little poem. One word to describe something I heard, two words for something I saw, and three words for something I felt. I really like how it turned out.

Sketch Tuesday - Signs
Skarlath
02/10/2009

This Sketch Tuesday we were to Sketch a Sign. Living on the Base that we do we just happen to have the best sign. "Caution. Low flying planes. Look both ways before proceeding." I just had to do that one. I thought we had a picture of the original sign but I can't seem to find it. I wasn't really expecting to find it tho. Since it's hidden in 5,263 other pictures.

Outdoor Hour #1
Skarlath
01/29/2009

We finally got started on the Outdoor Hour Nature Book Study! Sense I seam to be quite enthralled with Mangroves right now I decided to do another one. They're just so much fun I have to admit. All those tangling roots can get quite confusing though. I think in this one you can see the refraction better. I think I'm getting better at canopies. This one looks pretty good. I love the Little Green Herons that hang out around here so I had to put one in. I was really surprised when I finished him and he look real! Also something for you to find. A little Grey crab. He's very tiny. It's hard for me to find and I know where he is!

Sketch Tuesday- Something Salty
Skarlath
01/26/2009

Yup that's right I actually did a sketch Tuesday! For something Salty I knew just what to draw. A Mangrove! In particular the Red Mangrove which produces salt itself. I think anyway ( I'll have to go check that out just to make sure). I decided to portray the waterline not as a line but through refraction. So if you look at the roots you may be able to see it I don't know if it shows up vary good though. I tried a new technique with the canopy (One of my least favorite things to draw) and I think it turned out quite well. I think I will have to practice it more and try different tree leaves to see the differences between them. As you can also see the roots have a lot of snails on them as well as a crab right in the middle. That is one of the things I remember most about the mangroves is all the crabs! You walk on the roots and it's showering crabs! Well I have to go off to a Chinese restaurant to celebrate the Chinese New Year! ( Sense I'm not good at closing lines I'll save myself the strain and just end it simply hows that?) Happy Year of the Ox!!!

Well that worked great... New Years resolution #1 down the drain. It was to put up more posts but as you can see that worked well. I'm not one for making resolutions. Never really have "made" one. But (time for the excuses) after Christmas I was so busy trying to put my room back together. (still am *looks at room* @.@) For New Years I went to my friends house whom I never get to see since they are a hundred miles away !.! (Yes that is a crying face. If you squint really hard it kinda does look like it's crying. Maybe...) We stayed up waaaaay too late New Years Eve. Can you guess how late we stayed up? And no guessing from you two since you were the ones I stayed up with so you obviously know. (at least I hope you still remember. *looks at two friends 100 miles away* o.o) Anyway after that I came home and yesterday I started school back up. We are cranking away catching up one a whole month that someone should have been schooling but didn't. Heh heh heh... So we are working mostly on history doing about a weeks worth topic wise in a day. Which is a lot of papers to read but I seem to be doing well lets just hope I can keep it up! And speeking of school *looks at clock* I have to go and do some! No use sitting here typing about it all day then not doing it! Wouldn't really work.
