On Our Way Again

It turned out to be a really good decision to stop in Georgetown and not to continue to our original destination in the Abacos. The front that brought us 25 or so knots and minimal rains was a lot more aggressive farther north....reported wind strengths of 100 knots and tons of thunderstorms.
Georgetown was "relatively" empty of cruisers. Many have already headed back to the States. But the morning net still talks of BBQs and Mexican Train dominoes as part of the social scene. The upcoming week is the Bahamas Family Regatta where a combination of cruisers and locals race the traditional Bahamian wooden sailboats. No doubt more boats still in the area will zero in on Georgetown to take part in the fun. I watched a local load up his boat with several dozen cases of beer destined for the Chat and Chill for the regatta. That will disappear quickly, I am sure. We'll miss the activities this year but have had a great time watching the races in years passed....wonderful photo ops!
As often happens after a front passes, the wind dropped to practically zero. But we took off this morning anyway with full fuel tanks and extra jerry jugs....enough fuel for us to motor (one engine at a time @ 2250 rpm....7-8 knots) all the way home if we have to. We are headed north and will pass through the cut between Cat Island and Eleuthera into the Atlantic later this afternoon. In spite of the fact that we are motoring, it is a beautiful day. I think I'll make some chocolate chip cookies.
