What a Morning!

We finally latched on to some Gulf Stream current yesterday evening and enjoyed a 2-3 knot lift for 8 hours or so. Expecting a nice, leisurely reach up the coast of Virginia this morning, we rolled out the reacher and began to move at a respectable 9 knot pace. But within a half hour, the wind moved forward and the apparent wind exceeded our top limit for the reacher (15 knots apparent) by several knots, so down it came. And out rolled the genoa. The wind continued to build to 24 knots apparent, so we put a reef in the main. But, again, within a half hour, the wind dropped like a stone and we were soon motoring. All that before 10 am this morning. Since then. we have alternately sailed and motor sailed to keep up our 8-9 knot pace. We are about 60 miles out of Hampton VA and are ready to tie up in our Hampton Yacht Club slip sometime tonight.
It's been a fun passage!
