Satya
Off again on December 28th 18miles southbound to Normans Cay, where a sunken drug plane was home to an abundance of fish colourful bright blues, yellows, purples, and coral reef. Yet another conch feast was in store for us, as the boys mastered pulling the conch from their shell. Chantelle lined up a conch and watched how the conch moved, flipped themselves over and slowly carried their heavy shelves to return home to the warm blue waters.
The kids visited the one tree island, returning sooner than expected with Bryn, who had deeply cutting his big toe on sharp volcanic rock. Love and peroxide stopped the bleeding within minutes and back to the water he went. A sign of the strength of the water was seen as a lame boat found refuge next to us the next morning after slipping on the anchor to meet with the sharp cutting bite of the volcanic lava rock that surrounds the island, leaving a painful hole in the port aft corner of the boat. The man seemed dazed, tired and overwhelmed with white plastered hands and clothes in his emergency repair efforts.
On an environmental note, we are really becoming aware of garbage created and water and food consumption. We sort cans that are crushed and not sure what to do with them. The books say to dump in the ocean, but something does not feel right about that. Leaving Nassau there are no places to dispose trash so far. We are keeping plastics and paper separate and throwing food scraps overboard. It feels so much better to be recycling somewhat. It has been so painful to have all our garbage go into the dumpster in the US and Nassau.
