Set sail at 0545 h and rode the tide out at 8+ knots. I needed to get to Albany Passage by 1000 h to catch the next tide change. I arrived at 1100 h only to find the current still flooding when it was meant to ebb! I got hammered by the current and made a whopping 2.5 knots SOG for the next hour. On top of the current the wind built to 15-20 knots which also funnelled straight down the passage on the nose! Once clear of Albany Passage I headed straight for Escape River.......straight into the headwind! By 1500 I was anchored in front of the Pearl Farm jetty in a rolly and windy anchorage. Only a short hop of 40M by recent standards but demanding navigation and no naps takes its toll.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved water and boats. Thanks to my parents, my first ocean passage was in 1964 when we sailed from the UK to Sydney via the Panama Canal at the ripe old age of 2 and a bit! I threw up the entire trip and the ship travelling in sight behind us, was lost [...]
