Aloha, Took the dinghy to this tiny little isand on Sunday where 8 villages were having there monthly get together for church. We found a non churchgoer to show us around the island . Guy went to church to see what it was like while I was too shy and afraid a couple of Houlies coming in an hour late to church would be rude if not down right disruptive. There were many people sitting outside the church under the trees where you couldn't see or hear anything?? WTF? Anyway it didn't cause much of a stir . When we got back, there were church goers riding home, about 30 people in a 16 ft outboard. Our friend Geoff on Sub Zero towed them home after their engine conked out from lack of fuel because the bow was so overloaded that the gas can couldn't deliver. I couldn't help but think that you wouldn't dare do that in America for fear of being sued. On Monday, the wind shifted more out of the East putting us really close to the nearby reef ,so we decided to head out to Port Sandwich for the big festival hoping for a good spot in what we expected to be a crowded anchorage. We had a pleasant sail through the East channel and up the 5 nm to Port Sandwich where we found only four other boats there already. We had the anchor down by 1300, and decided to walk the 50 min road trip to Lamap point. Along the way we kept asking people for bread even though everything was closed for Asuncion day. Lamap is french and very catholic. We found John and Rufino, both baking bread in different spots along our route. We arrived at the mission in Lamap where there was a festival going on with soccer and dancing and where we found Stephanie, a peace corps worker from DC who was the festival organizer for the Port Sandwich festival. After a nice chat and more info, we headed back to the boat collecting our baguettes along the way. Rufino was having trouble getting his bread going so we went back to the boat to wait for a signal that our rolls were ready. Finally, 1 and 1/2 hrs @ 7 pm after he said they would be ready, we got the flash and I took the dinghy to shore in a light drizzle to get our rolls hot out of the fire. I thought they would melt through my plastic bag, but I got back OK. Had a nice steak dinner, last of the sirloin with Suesue and Kumala ( sweet potatoe). Stay tuned, Rob
