21 March 2012 | Solomons , Rendova I, Husuzo Harbor
We have found fly Nirvana here in the Solomons. They have the sweetest happiest flies in the world here. They love haoles. They fly right up to us and kiss us all over. They crawl all over us cleaning off our dead skin and gooey cuts . They clean up our leftovers . They arrive in groups of 20 or 30 no matter how far we anchor off shore. Johnboy considers this to be a symbiotic relationship. No matter how many we kill, they just keep coming to bring us love and kisses. Tetepare takes the prize, but Rendova is a close second. And yes, I'm going a little crazy over them too. We tried to help control the population, but they reproduce here at an incredible rate. We killed @500 flies today and 300 yesterday. I think I blogged about our hike already. We couldn't afford to stay any longer at Tetepare. Did some snorkeling. Then, We got all three anchors up without too much trouble ,and had a beautiful tight hauled sail here with 15-17 k wind. This is a well protected harbor, has a nice crocodile lagoon here. I tried but couldn't connect on SSB last PM. Hope to make Munda tomorrow.
