Ted and I flew down to Mazatlan on November 2nd and, after checking into the El Cid Resort, walked over to Marina Mazatlan to see how Roundabout had faired during the long hot, humid summer - the hottest and wettest in some time. We had been away for 6 1/2 months and were eager to see her - the sky was turning pink over the harbour in another amazing Mazatlan sunset and Roundabout looked jaunty as ever, and as keen to get on with her adventures as were we. Our WestJet flight had included a 6-night stay at Marina El Cid. This allowed us to work all day on the boat; then as the sky began to turn pink, we would head back to the luxury of El Cid to enjoy Margaritas and watch the sunset from the hot pool - fabulous! The most difficult decision of the day was "where to go for dinner?" Several of our friends were back in Mazatlan too, and we enjoyed spending time and a few good dinners with Carolyn and Kathy (Shannon), Bryce and Molly (Abracadabra) and Ron and Fran (Calliope). Tony's Boat Management had taken very good care of Roundabout during the summer and the interior was as spotless as I had left it; but it still seemed to take an inordinate amount of time to re-organize and catalogue. I had given a lot of my provisions to the Salvation Army orphanage before we left in the Spring and the remainder had to be catalogued before I could provision for our trip north into the Sea of Cortez. We had also stored many items, which could be damaged by the heat, in temperature-controlled storage at Webber BBQ's and they needed to be transferred back to the boat and re-stowed. Of course, there are always the inevitable "boat jobs". The heat and humidity was incredible and the fan installation project was moved to the top of the list. After two days of cursing and groaning, Ted had four fans installed in our main salon, galley and aft cabin - they worked beautifully. (Jen and Gavin, we promise to have the fore-cabin fan installed before you arrive). The fresh water pump (new last year) stopped working, so Ted needed to install our spare and arrange for friends to bring us another "spare". Then the accumulator started acting up and the "quick-fix" solution was to empty the water tanks completely and then fill them up again to re-pressurize the system - another long and tedious job with only a slight improvement in water flow. The water now pumps in fits-and-starts and requires endless patience even to fill a glass of water! We have decided to leave installation of a new accumulator until we return to Mazatlan. It is definitely time to go sailing before anything else needs fixing!
