Chores

Crew
Offshore sailing has it's many pleasures, especially on clear days like today. The opportunity to relax and absorb some sunshine, and the beauty of the surroundings is always appreciated.
However, there are also many chores to be done on a regular basis in addition to cooking, cleaning and personal hygiene. Today was water-making day - which happens every 3-4 days. we have to run the engine for at least an hour to fill the water tanks using the water maker. That also means it is laundry day! We had good drying weather too, so everything that was moist inside literally got "hung out to dry". Everyone was busy with chores this morning. Rudy did some minor boat maintenance as well.
One of the most challenging tasks in light weather such as today is on the helm. Keeping the boat "in-the-groove" and moving as fast as possible takes a lot of focus - which most of us lose after about one hour. Wind Child moves well in light air though. We have been averaging 5 knots in 8-10 knots of wind on the beam for most of the day. However, we turned the engine on at 1900 local as the winds have diminished completely. Still heading due north to get around that big high pressure area.
No fish caught today, but we did have the Mahimahi from two days ago - barbecued - it was simply delicious!
Hoping we don;t have to motor too long,
Rudy, Dave, Terry and Rob
