Getting Set

Wind Child is back in PA with a cured mast and new setup for the masthead spinnaker. Charlie spent a couple of hours grinding the micro cracks and welding extensions to those cup shaped plates (stemball backing shell tang) that hold the diagonals.
We didn't like the look of the spinnaker halyard sheave at the mast head and the riggers suggested exiting the internal halyard near the top, mounting a crane plate and using a conventional block for the halyard, Not only would this eliminate a chafe point but would also allow the kite to fly clear of the mast. This was done, the mast reinstalled and Wind Child came home for last minute tasks and provisioning.
Rudy and Dave spent a most useful and rewarding hour with fellow sailor and SBYC member (Dr) Mike Crim going over first aid and medical supplies and getting advice on dealing with the more likely medical issues. We came away better prepared, but hopeful that our rudimentary medical training will never be put to the test. Big time thanks, Mike.
