"Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...
It's about learning how to dance in the rain."
Earning my Rank.
(aha moments)
While i was contorted in pretzel-like fashion yesterday painting the vee berth, my mind entertained me by trying to figure out why the women partners of sailing vessels are called the Admiral. It occurred to me that the root possibly comes from the word "admir(e)" And of course bingo, we ladies are certainly something the fellas (should) admire. This morning I looked up the definition of admire and this is what came up:
"To regard with pleasure, wonder, and approval."
I am sure my darling Al regards me with pleasure on occasion, I think he more likely was "wonder"ing how he might contort his much larger body frame into the vee berth and when I volunteered to do the job he showed his "approval".
So after much sweat and huffing and puffing and contorting my body in positions that i often thought i would need Al's help in getting out of I feel I have most certainly earned the rank of Admiral.
Attached photo is our V Berth with the quilt I just recently completed.

Gee where do we begin. Jen has finished painting the Vee berth, it looks so much bigger & brighter (even if its an optical elusion) & today we will move in the cushions & the memory foam pad, new curtains etc & the beautiful Quilt Jen hand made . The new table is installed. The hanging locker is all done. The cockpit is all finished except for going out today to find some thing to put on the floor. The vee berth water tank is installed & full of water. Yesterday evening we went to the boat & emptied all the lockers & cubby holes, of things we don't need or want. We are going to try taking as little as possible & then buying on route anything we may need. Today hopefully the head will all be hooked up. Still have to drill the holes through the bulkheads for the stove propane hose & detector, & remove part of the starboard rear bulkhead in the cockpit to fit the 55 gallon flex water tank. We are planing to move onto the boat on Friday, as Jen's daughter takes over the house. One hitch we have encountered which may delay our departure is the C-Map chips for our GPS Navigation, apparently the company is not burning any of the chips we require, because they are coming out with an updated software release. we have been told it will be about a week, (we will see)!!!! If the worst happens we still have all the Noaa charts loaded on both laptops & they both have Gps installed on them, so we could still get around safetly, even if they are not hooked into the autopilot. Good news, our raymarine wind instrument which was not working last year, is working, can only put it down to a loose wire at the top of the mast.

Between the rain we have been having, it's difficult to get some things done, But I did manage to get the cockpit painted, except for the floor. We can now install the new cockpit cushions Barry made for us, & have something soft to sit on. Hopefully next week I can finish the floor! The salon has been repainted & looks much brighter. The hanging cupboard opposite the head is now converted to a 1/3 hanging locker & the rest has been turned into drawers, for our clothes. The cupboard is lined & made with cedar, like the smell & it saves weight. The bow & stern supports for the mast are now ready for the mast which will go on next week, & then I can make a center support. The enlarged fold down table for the salon has been finished & varnished & is just waiting to be installed in the next few days. To Do! Finish the head (very important according to the Admiral), finish hooking up the water tanks, & a few electric changes. I have to install a Tachometer for the engine & then adjust the carburetor. We purchased a high pressure pump to hook up to a deck wash hose, after being convinced of the large amounts of smelly mud that is liable to be brought up by the anchor & chain during our ICW trip. Other than that we are ready to go. We are leaving weather permitting on the 6th July after the 4th July weekend is over. Needless to say we are getting really excited.
Admiral Comments.
Yes things are getting done. My to do's are a bit different, but with the help of my eldest daughter I'd say my house is pretty much ready for us to vacate. My sewing projects are complete. I am anxious to start to move my small wardrobe into the new cupboard drawers Alistair has built. I'm gathering some canned food items. Mostly I'm trying to socialize with friends I will be leaving behind for a bit. Sometimes I just shake my head at how drastic my life has changed in 3 ½ years. I want the weather to become more summery.

You have done a lot since I saw you. The decals look great! I think that is what they are called. |
