Bahia de la Ascencion
27 February 2014 | Bahia de la Ascencion, Mexico
Another almost perfect day. Although we planned on a really early start, the autopilot put a kibosh on the plan. Got up at 0450 hrs but we found that there was some work that needed to be done on the autopilot.
Everyone including SV Second Wind's fleet of 6 boats that came in around 1900 hrs last night left before us. Even Sv Contento beat us out of the anchorage. When we finally got started, we found out we couldn't sail because our beat up main sail does not respond well with the wind behind us. We motor sailed all the way to Bahia de la Ascension with SV Contento. The rest of the fleet went to Espiritu Santo. The bar entrance to this anchorage is another mini Bahia del Sol. To top it all, the sun was in our eyes and THUNK!! We hit something. The depth remained at 17 ft. below our keel so we know we didn't run aground. 10 minutes later, SV Contento behind us THUNKed and found the culprit - a lobster pot.
The day ended with a beautiful calm anchorage and a spectacular sunset to complete this storybook day. Oh, did I mention 4 dolphins greeted us and was playing around the boat until Angel barked at them?
Tomorrow, we head for either Tulum or Cozumel.
Life is good, Steve, Marie and Angel
